Becoming a yoga teacher means joining an industry that has been experiencing rapid growth over the past few years. More and more people are discovering a wide range of yoga benefits that include better health, greater strength and less stress. This is a great field to enter, and you have a variety of options. If you really believe in the philosophy behind yoga and want to be a teacher who promotes all aspects of this discipline, then there are a number of things that you may need to do in order to find employment.

Are you interested in becoming a yoga teacher? Ten or fifteen years ago there weren’t many yoga classes available, but with the recent growth of the gym industry, and the fact that yoga is presented as a way to relax and to exercise, there are many opportunities to learn yoga in gym classes nowadays. All of these classes mean there is a need for competent yoga instructors, who can clearly demonstrate the different yoga positions and explain the health benefits that come from doing them.

Most people who want to be a yoga teacher will have a lot of experience practicing the poses, which is one of the main requirements. Usually a gym will ask for at least a year of experience practicing yoga, but preferably a year of experience teaching it. Like any job, those with more experience possess a strong advantage over those who are new to the field. It is hard to present yoga information clearly and confidently if it is an area that you are not intensely familiar with, and so experience is a major requirement.

Depending on the type of yoga instructor you want to become, you may have to show other levels of commitment. If you’re purely interested in a position that is similar to an aerobics teacher, then that kind of experience is all that you need. If you want to be a promoter of the different yoga styles, then you’ll need to show your level of commitment to karma yoga, which focuses on selfless action and service. This means doing some kind of volunteering that will help someone or a group of individuals who are worse off than you.

A teacher of yoga who focuses on karma as well as the exercises will likely have to show how committed they are through examples of reflection. It is not unusual for a company steeped in yoga traditions to ask an applicant to produce essays or other examples of reflection on how yoga improved their life, or how they were able to make a difference in the lives of others.

Becoming a yoga teacher is much like getting any job. Luck will play a role, but so will taking the necessary steps to present yourself as a qualified individual. You can gain more work experience by offering to give free yoga tutorials to those in your neighborhood, you can sign up for more advanced yoga classes, and you can produce materials that show your dedication to the yoga lifestyle. An employer will take all of these factors into account and with a bit of luck you could be offered a teaching position.

The first thing that you want to look for in a Yoga Class and Yoga Instructor is that the teacher is teaching the type of Yoga that you want. And that Your not signing up for an advance Class when your a beginner. Beginners classes will basically teach you simple movements and meditation, and advance classes are more for people who have been doing yoga for awhile and are more flexible.

You don’t want to be in a class with advance and your not able to meditate and not flexible enough to keep up with the class, this will make you just want to quit Yoga all together.

If you are pregnant check with your doctor and then find a class that specializes with prenatal yoga.

Get a brief outline of the class that you want to take to make sure that it meets your needs. You don’t want to find out that the Yoga class that you signed up for isn’t want you want to achieve in that class.

Ask your friends if they have taken a class to get their reactions to the teacher. Not all teachers are the same.

Don’t feel like you have the take the whole series of classes if you are not happy with the Yoga Instructor.
